I end a rather negative weekend on a positive note. Last night I went back to Ebay to try and find a less frustrating replacement for the camera I'm presently using and after a couple of even more frustrating hours of reading long lists of mindnumbing specifications, debating and bidding and losing repeatedly, something snapped. I seem to have lost all sense of perspective. Then I have a brainwave.
I remembered I still have my parent's box camera they used to take photos of their unruly kids, so I rushed upstairs, rummaged around, and found it at the back of a wardrobe, it's an
Agfa Synchro Box and is still in good working order. A quick search on the internet and I find it takes 120 film, has two apertures, one is f/11 and the other unknown, a shutter speed of 1/30 sec and Magritte used one, good enough for Rene, good enough for me. I immediately binned my Ebay watch list and bought some rolls of B&W film to play with. I feel my enthusiasm renewed and I'm particularly curious about using the camera at night, it has a small catch that allows you keep the shutter open for long exposures and a fitting for a cable release.
Later I also discover online a software hack that will allow me to take photos in the raw format with my G7 and turn it into a G9 - interesting!
