365 - Park Life [348]*

2008.02.09

pixel
Too many people in the park for squirrels...
pixel
pixel
.., a couple of brave/foolish squirrels tried a ground assault but the prospect of getting caught between frequent passer-by's and Bella quickly discouraged them.
pixel
pixel
pixel
Once I'd bagged some birds we moved on, I find I can now analyse a squirrel scene faster than I do most things in life. Bella doesn't want to leave she hasn't had enough.
pixel
We had a wander and I thought I'd try out a close-up lens on the 18-55mm kit lens, a lens I use infrequently, let's find another use for it. [I don't like the 'Macro' bit of the Sigma 70-300mm.] I'll go look for flowers & bugs, I snapped a Bee and a Fly the other day, there must be more. One of the embankments has a nice selection of early risers.
pixel
Took some good flower pics but the single bee I saw was too quick for me and one isn't worth chasing.
pixel
pixel
pixel
I hear the Yapping Crew, let's take a look. What a racket. Bella's gone off anyway to check out the noise.
pixel
pixel
I'm not quite convinced I took this photo. [Just in case you're confused this is not Bella, this is too energetic for Bella.]
pixel
This member of the crew doesn't run.
pixel
pixel
After a few shots we head for home and I spot Max and Mr Thompson[?] on the road to the main gates, I missed the shot I wanted because I still take too much time messing with the camera controls, they're still frustratingly unfamiliar. Max and his human are in the wrong place but the rest of the photo looks good.
pixel
Following them, we walk down to where a Robin likes to hang out. It's seeing off a rival so it's easy to spot. Then it's home to upload, I have a rather good fried duck egg sarnie and check out the news headlines while Bella has a bone so she won't eat squirrel.
pixel
Taken on our second visit an hour later.
pixel
pixel
I meet another Big Camera user, only the fourth I've spotted this year. I pass on a couple of good spots...
pixel
...then my knees & elbows got very dirty as I got bug level.
pixel
Bella hates flower photography, gets bored, came over for a cuddle, scared off the bugs so she got snapped. She hates close-ups.
pixel
pixel
pixel
I'm still working out the best distance for the close-up lens so most of the photos were out of focus and non-salvageable. [I don't like the 'Macro' bit of the Sigma 70-300.] Never mind, I got to roll on the ground like a child for a legitimate reason.
pixel
Taken on a late third visit as the sun set so we had to be quick. This is the theme entry for 'New Beginnings' but I didn't realise it was a day theme and it grabbed the whole page.
pixel
The Jet should be over the tower but the camera & I were too slow.
pixel
This makes up for the sloppiness.
pixel
So does this. Leave your mark.
pixel
Getting out of bed today turned into a Grand Day Out.

I'm almost done on my Project and today must prove doing a 365 works.

Lynda Alawys varied and interesting sets. Does this mean you'll be photgraphing somewhere else now?

Madoc Oh!...Peter, this set starts to look just like the kind of work that got me addicted to your blog when I arrived on Photoblog. Gorgeous flowers and outstanding bee/fly/wasp close-ups...and superb bird and dog shots too...
Really strong, top class, truly fine set today, my friend.
It seems that you're getting better everytime with movement shots!
And again, I can't get enough of these notes. It is so interesting to know the story behind some shots, the photographer's impressions on them.
#12, 13 & 14 are fascinating.
#22, 25 & 26.......just: WOW! It's been a while now that I haven't seen such spectacular insect macros...Spring must be close now...
You are such an inspiration for me Peter...Now i can't wait to do some of these myself (but I'll have to wait a couple of months...: (
