Rolls of actual size food models at the restaurant’s side glass display showcase, with wooden background creating contrast and texture. Visually colourful and impactful.

The food models look realistic and colourful. All the bowls have the Ajisen logo.

How do they do that?

Thanks Maharba for viewing my photoblog. The Japanese are the experts in making food models. Materials used include plastic (liquid form to fit the necessary food shape in silicon moulds) and paints (conventional brushes or airbrushing). Some manufacturers use polyresin and wax to produce the various shapes and sizes. You may wish to know more about how food models are made, by visiting the website http://web-japan.org/nipponia/nipponia29/en/topic/index.html

Hi! Have you ever think of learning all these skills? I hope I can have these skills & work in this line =)

Hi Jadekiwi, yes I did ever think of learning skills of making plastic food models. I believe there are two important requirements. Firstly, to be good in Japanese language so as to learn the skills from the Japanese masters. Secondly, to be good in cooking and baking skills (the masters are like skilled chefs/bakers who apply techniques such as squeezing creamy patterns on crepes). Regretfully I do not meet these two requirements at the moment. I am now looking at visiting of food model factories in Japan. I would like to observe how such models are made in real life. If I do have such contacts and arrangements, I will let you know.
