A Small Pond

Sometime after lunch and after my appointment with the dentist, I walked around my favorite small pond. It's a rather magical place. During the summer the birders appear with their long lenses and books. In the spring everything gets moving. The heron moves back. Autumn and the cattails, half pecked away, fringe the pond. In the winter the pond is quiet; the path around a bit slippery—or icy—or snow filled. Some winters I've trudged through calf high snow or snow shoed around. This winter the pond has a mere coating of snow. Today —sunny, crisp. A day to simply stand in awe.
