New Growth

2007.03.02

Egg shells fascinate artists. Five years ago I attended an opening for an artist who worked with cracked egg shells. One installation of his covered a five by ten foot area of a room. An artist friend collected cracked eggs—from friends— and set up elaborate and arresting still life compositions. She then abstracted the compositions and created huge paintings. Recently I saw the work of an artist who worked with egg shells. Why not me?

So since today was March 1st —the day when spring is promised, I decided to work with egg shells. ( They are posted for the 2nd.) Eggs—the promise of renewal.

carmitage Yes, why not, that was an excellent idea. Very clever and super results.
The last one is my favourite. I think I'll have an egg for breakfast.

jjimson Very creative. Love #4. How did create that black background? light tent or something like that?
jjimson · 2007-03-02: 06:43
photopoet I used black pastel paper affixed to foam board for the backdrop and a coarser black paper laid flat on a wood surface for the egg shells. I also used white foam board to direct the natural light.

I set this all up on a four foot rotating table that I use for macro photos.
