a dancing landscape

context—a weaving of place and people

still point of the turning world-T.S. Elliot

"Metaphors ground in landscape"

shape vs structure as landscape

Each leaf has a history

I inherited this landscape

from The Landscape of Language by Annie Whiston Spirn

"A place is particular, a tapestry of woven contexts: enduring and ephemeral, local and global, related and unrelated, now and then, past and future. Landscape context is a fabric whose strands are narratives of landscape elements and features, both the persistent and the fleeting."

The buttons on the button board were given to me. I see within their words repetitions of history. Each button is merely a button, but the landscape it conjures up composes itself into a story.

( I have no idea what the script on the button with the triangle says.)

I thought about landscapes after viewing Oldboy Jack's blog. His picture of a sculpture that will soon come down sent me off thinking about the landscape of symbolism.

"Metaphors," said Spirn," grounded in landscapes guide how humans think and act. Some landscapes are polemical "layered with complex, paradoxical meanings."

Yoshi 行動 = 命 (Koudou ha inochi)
le mot " inochi " ca veut dire generalement "life", mais dans ce cas ca veut dire " belief ", " principle" je crois .. donc ca signifie
" (to put ideas into) action is important for me " , " To take action is my principle"

chipotle this post completes a thought i had when i read the sontag quote in your "seeing into" set. i think some people use photography to create metaphor. you do, for example. it's active and not passive. it's more than capturing context, it's--hopefully--creating it.

your posts make my head hurt. ;-) in a great way.

(did you inherit a "nixon--now more than ever" button, too?)
