Color by Victoria Finlay spins tales of colour—
"Joseph Lovibond was an Englishman who will be remembered for ... his pioneering work with colors. He began to realize that the variations in color of his different brews were a good guide to their quality, but found there was no established way of categorizing them—he needed some sort of graded scale.

...Lovibond was attending a service at Salsibury Cathedral, and suddenly realized the answer lay in finding the right shades of brown stained glass as a standard against which to compare the colors of his amber-colored brew. Five years later, in 1855, he produced the first colormeter, with a scale of many different kinds of brown..."

So I went looking for browns!

Jannie Excuse me, no offense, but #1 &2 don't belong in this set. They are GOLDENS!! Goldens are not brown for goodness sakes!! Goldens are rich golden reds & golds. Brown is an insult to a golden dog! Other than that, great set!!

photopoet Jannie—no offense to Goldens, but to my eye they fall into that wonderful array of colors that range from golden to deep brown.
