Thoreau's Walden

2007.05.05
"We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake.."

The site of Thoreau&#39s house

"Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? "

&#39Let us spend one day as deliberately as Nature..."

"I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world

"Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in."

",,,as I was fishing from the bank of the river..."

"let me have a draught of undiluted morning air..."

"There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star."

"the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."

"There have been caught in Walden pickerel, one weighing seven pounds-

Walden Pond

Today was a day to amble around the pond.

The pond is a103 ft deep "kettle" hole in the midst of over 2000 acres of surrounding woods.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear..."
Thoreau

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. "
Thoreau

dquixote This is a very peaceful, soothing post. Thank you so much for reminding us that we need to slow down and enjoy life for what it is.

dquixote BTW - this comes during a really busy week at work - by then end of tomorrow I'll have about 20 hours of overtime! Great for the paycheck...not much good for "peaceful, soothing anythings" :-)

Thanks again for this post.

Nora75 Lynda it’s a wonderful set and I must agree with Patty. The whole story and all of your pictures touched me and my soul. And fascinated me how you could play with shadows in your photos. Great job!

aggiechristine That people stop to see and experience this beauty shows me that Thoreau's philosophy is alive today. As always - you've perfectly illustrated his words!
