What's in a Name

2007.06.27
Zucchini Eight Ball

Tradewinds Hibiscus

Proper names are poetry in the raw. Like all poetry they are untranslatable. ~W.H. Auden

"Zucchini squash are far and away the most popular summer squash among home gardeners. And if you're tired of growing the stereotyped oblong-shape dark green squash featured in markets and grown by most gardeners, then you may want to sample one or all of the three recently introduced round zucchinis. Try Zucchini Eight Ball."

"The Trade Wind Series consist of four Wind varieties and four Breeze varieties. " —Whatever that means!

(Since I'm going away for ten days I'm putting photos into days that haven't yet had their turn in real time. Check backwards to June 23rd—if you'd like... I'll catch up on comments after July 4th)

Burstmode I love the Tradewinds...they were a calypso group when I was growing up. They sang in the Trinidad Hilton Hotel.
