Whither goest thou, America, in thy shiny car in the night? ~ Jack Kerouac

When we were in Santa Fe we went to see an exhibit of Barbara Bowles's photographs of discarded cars. She's great— you can see her work on line: BarbaraBowles.com

Several days later I spotted this old wagon —still being used—still sporting a license plate. I wish I met the driver of the ancient school bus. I know that he drinks coffee because he left a large paper coffee cup on the seat as well as two empty bags of chips.

Two days later a man pulled into a parking space with a beautifully painted station wagon.
"Great paint job," I said.
"My daughter painted it as a high school project. She'll be a freshman at the College of Santa Fe this fall."
"Got an A," he added.
"May I take some pictures?"
"Sure. Someday she may be a famous artist."

Bless the individuals who march to their "own drummer".

youlookmahvelous I love the old bus, what character and there must have been alot of laughter from the kids that rode her. (at least that's what I envision)

vollenda Those vehicles must trigger a lot of conversation. How proud that dad is! That's very cool that he would let his daughter paint his van. That kind of belief in her must have lifter her up so high! :)

kangshung Wonderful photos - that bus must have quite a history. And I agree with Lisa, that was pretty cool to let his daughter paint the van. Luckily mine never asked!
