Turning, turning, turning—

To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
—Ecclesiastes 3:1

When I left the house early this morning it felt like snow—grey sky, cold and that sense of winter's step. I thought of the words "to everything there is a season" and that triggered my mind off in another direction.

Being a folk song enthusiast I have collected some of the songs from the fifties and sixties and I recalled the Pete Seeger song 'Turn, Turn, Turn'. He believed that songs could change the world. The words to the song came from the book of Ecclesiastes with an addition of two of his own lines—the last lines:

"A time of peace. . .I swear it's not too late."

And to think I started with the progression, in one week, from a fiery red tree to a leaf buried under the first snow. "To everything there is a season."
