Around Since Paleolithic times

"Slotted spoons don't hold much soup"

“The rule in carving holds good as to criticism; never cut with a knife what you can cut with a spoon”

—Charles Buxton

“Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.”

— E. M. Forster

“They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon”

—Edward Lear

“Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed.”

—Buddha

“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”

—T.S. Eliot

Since I am waiting in the house for another crew to arrive and break apart the ice dam, I attended to a number of "must do" but don't want to get to do tasks. The ceiling is still leaking, the water stain is spreading and I am moving items to places that are dry.

I looked about for a metaphor—and found a spoon.

Imagine moving a ton of sand with a teaspoon
or filling soup bowls for giants with a demitasse spoon?
Envision a slotted spoon ladling gravy
or eating ice cream with a caviar spoon
Imagine digging a hole to stand in
or using a spoon to measure the water in a pond?
