Wonderful shot! I've seen them in the trees behind my house, but they're always so high up, I can't get very close, even with a 300mm zoom. I love this!

Very interesting. I didn't know they were so large or called Woodcocks either. I have heard the term Woodcock but didn't relate the two. I don't believe I've ever seen one either but I'm going to have to track the woodpeckers down in our wooded area when I here them drilling to see just what they are now!

we have these in out back yard. the raise such a ruckus when they peck. their call sounds sort of prehistoric, too.
