You Can Only Lay One Brick at a Time

2008.07.17
I found Rome brick, I left it marble.

All you have to decide is what you're going to do with the time you are given.
— Gandalf

I do not believe in objects. I believe only in their relationships.
—George Braque

Brick by brick—the history of civilization

The creation of a world view is the work of a generation rather than of an individual, but we each of us, for better or for worse, add our brick to the edifice.

jagungal Bricks are so interesting visually — the traces and textures of time are always evident. Loved this post — and great captions, as usual.

oldbabe When I see bricks a fleeting thought of my husband's great grandfather goes through my mind. He was manager of a brick factory and spent his life making bricks. I never knew him, but I have studied him and his brick factory.

You wonder what was there and got "bricked up" in #1 and why.
