Noir Cornfield

A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.

Diane Arbus

It rained and rained yesterday. Today the sun made a brief appearance and then the thunderstorms started up. I intended to photograph the corn field's green stalks against a deep blue sky. Instead the sky turned gray and washed out.

The longer I stared at the field the more it morphed into a forbidding place. So why not pursue that?

I imagined the corn stalks in a Kafka story—

Madoc I'm glad that you took these (and hope that there's more to follow! ;-) because I think they superbly express the feeling you had whenyou were there.

Very well done B&W. I really love the contrasts.

oldbabe I drive by corn fields every day here in IA. We are known for our corn. But I've never seen a corn field in b/w. It does look rather scary. Haven't read Kafka in years - since that existentialism class in college - but it took me immediately to thoughts of Stephen King's "Children of the Corn" even before you mentioned Kafka. Iowa corn fields or colored corn fields don't seem to do that ;-)

I liked that evergreen branch in the road. Oh, and I wondered why there was a road through the corn to begin with!
