Many Branches, One Tree

This is a week of hope—

James Carroll penned a beautiful column in yesterday's Boston Globe. Within the piece he wrote, "The great religions of the world—(Christianity), Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism—and the no-religion of rationalism have all countered the normalcy of violence with assertions of compassion and loving kindness."

Carroll is a Christian and sees in Jesus the "masterpiece expression of the possibility of forgiveness and righteousness." But he also acknowledges that there many paths.

As I light the menorah candles may the Hanukah lights and the Christmas lights usher in peace and loving kindness—hesed in Hebrew.
