White-Breasted Waterhen

The White-breasted waterhen is an amusing bird to watch. It has enormous feet, tail constantly flicking and it has a very inquisitive nature. It's also a very shy bird, when alarmed it will fly or dashes into a dense undergrowth and disappears very quickly.

It forages for food alone or in pairs. It feeds on mainly seeds, insects, small fish and shoots and roots of marsh plants. The Waterhen prefers habitats with dense undergrowth and they are commonly found in mangroves, gardens, parks and marshes.

It breeds throughout the year, each time 4 to 9 eggs are laid. The chicks leave the nest as soon as they've hatched.
