MASS LOBBY

Michaela's pass to select committee

What we did on tuesday. Home ed as I often have mentioned is very important to us; this week has been a busy week in the continuing struggle against the badman review. On Monday the select committee called mr Badman and some of his cohorts to defend the terms of his review, a lot of people have been very vigorous in refuting his findings. He was asked some very tough questions on his dodgey statistics which was good HURRAH.
On tuesday we went to London to join the picnic and mass lobby over 450 people went, we know this coz 450 were let in to the house of parliament before it was full and some didn't get in. I spoke to my MP, as did many people there, on the subject of the hideous review and what was wrong with it. Michaela stayed the night with some of her HEYC friends so they could sit in on the select committee hearing on Wednesday so a bit of political home ed in action.
On a more personal note; on tuesday morning we drove to the station half an hour before our train was due to leave but the train car park was full. The attendant suggested the swimming pool over the road but that was no good 3 hours only or a 14 quid fine. So I drove around a bit but all the roads had double yellows, it was getting dangerously close to train time so I thought bugger it I'll go to the multi storey it'll cost a bit but no choice, we had 10 mins to spare it was a bit of a walk to train station like 5mins, the gods were with me there was a space right at the beginning of the ground floor, we parked and ran (in smart clothes and heels, such dedication) and we made it with a couple of minutes to spare phew.
Had our lovely day in London met up with people I knew and didn't, lovely atmosphere lots of cars and lorries and buses honked in support, kids waved banners blew bubbles and picniced. Then when all parliamentry business was done Michaela and her friends (all 15 to 17 maybe an 18 year old) headed off to camden to have vietnamese food, so much more sophisticated than anything I did at 15. I went off on an adventure of my own to meet Robert who has been in my blog recently, havn't seen him for twenty years so really quite exciting.
After all this I caught my train home at 8 o'clock, got back to solihull at 9.45 with throbbing feet (I never wear heels) walked the horrible 5 mins to car park and what the fuck, the car park was closed, I could see my poor car through the metal grill and a small sign informing me that the fucktard car park shut at 9, grrr not nearly prominent enough. So a taxi home and a very early rise to go pick car up and 10.10 parking fees. That was quite annoying and I wrote to the council to moan about the stupid early closing time of their stupid garage all the good that'll do me. Still had a great day all in all, minus the last bit

anjan i think it's quite interesting.

my friend recently parked in a multi storey in sheffield, he went back to collect it the next day and it was closed al day (sunday). there were a couple of other people there wondering what to do about their confiscated cars. they ended up ringing the company who got one of their employees out of bed on their day off to come and open up for them. why would a car park in a city be closed on a sunday? it was next to a big hotel too.

terryl I think it is quite interesting how these days everyone is reduced to a photo ID... even if it's a bad photo on the ID. It's sad that we can't just be any more.

pinkynomore that is modern life Terry. 'I am not a number I'm a free man' wonder when they will get the big bubble to chase us when we are not conforming

terryl Well, it's a pain, because whenever I miss the postman and have to go pick up a parcel I don't have any photo ID. I don't drive, I don;t have a passport and now I'm retired I don't have a BT works pass either. The picture on my London Transport Photocard was taken in 1986 and if you can tell it was me you need your eyes checking.

Don't get me started on the National ID cards either - I won't pay for a card to tell me who I am, they want me to have one, they pay for it (with my taxes anyway).
