Hatched!

2009.06.09
You may have seen an earlier entry on this photoblog about a wild turkey hen who took up temporary residence in one of our courtyards.

Well, this morning the long-awaited event occurred!

The eggs are hatched and we have babies wandering about!

Mama and the twelve chicks hung out for about two hours and then walked down the steps, crossed our fields, and disappeared into the woods. Now they will be better hidden from hawks, crows, and other predators.

For more information about wild turkeys, take a look at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
