4th Grade Band Night

2009.05.14
Here are young musicians playing a song on their mouthpieces. Fourth Band Night is more than a concert. It provides a lens into the academic program of our talented band teacher, Terry Reynolds.

The evening began solely with brass players. Mr. Reynolds said that parents should enjoy this moment when they are sitting in the front rows. The brass is usually relegated to the back of traditional bands and orchestras.

Next we heard some practice pieces of clarinets and saxaphones.

Next we heard from a combo of flutes and glockenspiels.

We learned that a flute player needs to use more air pressure than a tuba player to produce sound!

It is a requirement that all percussion players learn to read music and play mallets.

The full band was assembled and they played Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues"

Dozens of these first-year-players took a turn at the mic improvising a solo!

Mr. Reynolds then conducted three beautifully arranged pieces.

It was a performance that made every parent, granparent, and sibling so proud of their young musician!
