Charting a Course for Environmental Leadership

A pioneer in environmental education, Clearwater has opened the hearts and minds of over half a million children to the natural treasures and challenges of the Hudson River Valley. Today, these children are now the professionals, parents, and government leaders who are helping to lead the environmental recovery of the Hudson River through their words and actions. Clearwater’s program of ship-board education has been emulated nationally and internationally and is enthusiastically embraced by schools across the Hudson River Valley.

Since 1969, when the majestic sloop Clearwater was launched, the floating classroom has inspired educators and children alike. Today, many of these children are the professionals, parents, and government leaders who are helping to lead the environmental recovery of the Hudson River through their words and actions. Clearwater’s program of ship-board education has been emulated nationally and internationally and is enthusiastically embraced by schools across the Hudson River Valley.

Clearwater offers an innovative continuum of on-water, onshore, and indoor activities to help teachers incorporate environmental science and cultural programs into the curriculum.

For a very special day over the past two weeks each of our fourth graders have had the opportunity to be part of the Clearwater's legacy. The event becomes a crowning jewel on an exciting Social Studies curriculum about our fine state! I hope these pictures provide you with a flavor of the day. I thank Mr. Badini for allowing me to use his photos.
