Iowa Illinois Memorial Bridge

2008.03.04
This "74" Bridge as we call is connects Bettendorf, IA and Molilne, IL ( home of John Deere)

The bridge also is significant as a rare bridge type, as the work of an important engineer (Ralph Modjeski), and as one of the "Great River" bridges built over a major river. Additional historical significance is derived from the fact that it was a Depression-era PWA project.

MHJphotos Cool shots! This looks an aweful lot like the Tacoma Narrows bridge not far from where I live. Very cool!

oldbabe Learn something new every day! Thanks for the little lesson. I didn't even know this bridge had a name. These are all very good. That last one has me a bit frightened. You know my fear of bridges/heights! Did you stop all traffic on the bridge to get these ;-)

ambersunsets Great photos and interesting info. We are learning about the Great Depression at school. Maybe I could weave this into my unit.

We have some historic bridges here in Chattanooga. I'll have to post them some time.

I like the lines and angle of the last photo, and I feel like I'm driving across in #3.

TheCrazyCroat These pics are great. Love the angles. At first it reminded me of the Narrows Bridge, but as I scrolled down they are a lot different.

This one has a bit of a creepy factor.
