Opposable thumbs

This is what opposable thumbs is all about. My Australopithecine ancestor (who’s also yours) would be proud. It’s all very well to train dogs to pull down a door lever – they look so cute and intelligent when they do that – but no one has bothered to teach them to shut the door afterwards. No, this is why the forehead shrank, the back straightened, the hair receded and the cranium grew.
It started off with Quark’s fantastically textured post. I wanted to have a go at something mottled and grainy. Unfortunately, I live in a fairly unmottled environment and my doorknobs must be the most boring I know. As I’m leaving soon, I decided to live with them.
Techie notes:
TS-E 45 lens with an extender to increase the maximum magnification and narrow aperture; desaturation and increased contrast; sharpening.

I really like both of these. Nice composition in both and I love the detail that you captured including the paint drip in the second.

I like the interesting perspective in the first photograph and the more dynamic composition that results from it. Even the most mundane objects around us can make great subject for photography if we know how to look at them. As they say, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder ;)

Although it seemed (at first) strange that the door handles hung at the top and bottom of the door, the angle from which the first photo was taken has an excellent result.

Why but why are details and abandoned textures always so a attractive:-))) Great post, nice DOF's, sharp where necessary, I like them:-)) Thank for naming me, an honour:-))

I like the tone and texture on these- and dogs aren't the only ones who pull down door handles. I had a very bright Abyssinian cat who did just that and for people who didn't believe me my other half took a photo of him doing that (pre digital).

Nice set. I think I like the first one best. I have lots of "texture" like that around my house. If I photograph it though I might have to deal with it. ;)
