Peonies for Robin: unconcerned but not indifferent

There was a Man Ray retrospective last year in Paris, which explains my hack attempt at his beautiful 'rayograms'.

One of the surprising things about his work was the disparity (some of it was just bad; you don't imagine Raphael having a bad day, Monet finishing a crap water lily or Giotto drawing a wonky circle, etc., still...). Another was the tiny size of Man Ray's negatives.

"Unconcerned but not indifferent" is a lovely motto, IMO. It's also Man Ray's epitaph.

Anyway, I saw and admired some peonies here, remembered the rayograms, the epitaph and here's the result.

Jarvo Nice shots. I like the B&W one best. I'm going to remember that phrase and throw it into a conversation sometime.

DancingDolphin I like the result in #3, reminds me of a Georgia O'Keefe painting...
DancingDolphin · 2009-05-28: 22:46
????? There's so much light and shadow going on inside the flower and it shows up most in the negative in 2 and 3 and made me go back and look at #1 again.

lookagain Interesting variations. I like the dark and light contrasts in the second, but the color in the third is very appealing.
