Never did like the chocolate bar
As I can barely tell the difference between breast and wing on a plate, all I can assert is that this is a bird
I am convinced that zoos are a hilarious practical joke played on homo sapiens sapiens by the rest of the animal kingdom

Only realised later that a fascinating albino peacock was out of focus. Lucky for him he's not a crow.
The original of yesterday's post, which seems to have struck a cord with more than one of you.
This was the psychedelic version which Carole briefly saw before I removed it as overkill from yesterday's post.
You might want to listen to this - or you might not

All zoo animals look like Robert De Niro.

Or maybe it's the other way round.

Taken at the zoo de la Barben in Provence yesterday.

I also posted some suggestions on zoo photography in forums. Click here to read them.
RayNvb I'm inspired. I need to get to the zoo. Thanks for the photos and the tips!

????? Your zoo trip looks very successful ... useful tips ... I find the giraffes intriguing ... I like the angle .. sky is a little dark though ... the monkey is just adorable (mesh and all) ... nice set. Did you like the movie?

Eiram Love stereo:))
Eiram · 2010-02-28: 12:47
????? I think you have made it politically correct to post zoo pictures! Two things that often get negative comments are zoos and cemeteries. I love your #4.

thebronzebow Attacking attention wherever you go...;-) Nice set, I'll have to go check your tips. I like the editing you'e played with too.
thebronzebow · 2010-02-28: 13:20
smbunation Definitely something that makes me like others want to head to the local zoo [which yes, I do have mixed feelings about...] However, shot eight is adorable and the editing on the pachyderm is hilarious. Love the De Niro line too.
smbunation · 2010-02-28: 13:36
davids Mmmm didn't know you got mozzarella from north American bison... but I would pay good money to see you try and milk one!
davids · 2010-02-28: 16:01
longimanus I`d like to complete your thoughtful list of great hints for a successful zoo photosesson in forum: don’t take your 4 years old child with :-) reg. stativs: sometimes its nearly impossible to carry with (crowd, mad kids around, lots other stuff to carry) but up to about 1/10 of a second free hand works too, using other means to have steady hands. I`ve got lots of zoo pics but didnt find them worthy to share, you`ve changed my mind, I`ll post some in future. thanks for the inspiration.
longimanus · 2010-02-28: 16:20
longimanus ps. your psychedelic version of the elephant is cool... andy warhol would envy this
longimanus · 2010-02-28: 16:21
Jarvo Of course being one of the greatest method actors of our time DeNiro has made it his business to be able to pass himself off as any living mammal.
Jarvo · 2010-02-28: 18:45
DancingDolphin Fortunately for photographers more and more zoos have a more natural habitat for the animals... I think not looking caged is most important. #1 is my favorite, so grand.
DancingDolphin · 2010-02-28: 22:34
lookagain The first shot is fantastic and my favorite....what an expression you caught!! Enjoyed your commentary, too, and thanks for the zoo shooting tips....much appreciated!

Azrin Great shots! Haven't been to zoo for quite some time now...
Azrin · 2010-03-01: 22:19
alicew I really enjoyed this post! Excellent DOF, lovely composition and interesting moments on every photo. A couple of them went to my favs.
alicew · 2010-03-02: 00:12
Ryana Nice post with beautiful pictures.

Have read your tips, thanks for them,
they will certainly be remembered.
Ryana · 2010-03-02: 02:29
matteahmb I enjoyed the 1 and the monkey. I admit that an otter would have made a nice addition (primarily because they are one of my favorite zoo animals). I assume they hid paint in the little elephant's food :)
Kudos on the pictures. Our zoo closed other wise I could spend days shooting there.
matteahmb · 2010-03-02: 08:43
Amethystia #3 is a beautiful Grey Crowned Crane! http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7810616
