Ryan, Zach and I took a long walk all over town today. It was urban hiking -- we went all over the place but never left the city limits.
We started at Zach's house, walked down the Riverwalk, and ultimately ended up sitting on the old sand factory dock for a while before hiking back.
Yes, that's right, we used to have a sand factory. They mined the dunes to make glass. There used to be a dune near here named Creeping Joe. They eliminated it completely and then kept going, leaving a huge hole. They miscalculated how close they were to the lake, however, and one day the hole started filling in with water. It filled up so fast they they couldn't even get all of the heavy equipment out of there; it is still resting somewhere at the bottom of what we now call Man-Made Lake!
It's amazing how when you live somewhere your whole life, you can forget how beautiful it is!
