More Native American Hopi Artwork

2008.03.18
The phrase 'A Joyful Noise' jumped out when I saw this painting.

This one I think of as 'The Hunter'

This is just one part of the interior of the Hopi Room in the Desert View Watchtower. It is massive!

When I saw this painting it seemed like it should be entitled 'The Dream'

This painting reminded me of the story of ' The Fish that got Away'

These photos as well as the proceeding 3 blog entries show the art work of the Hopi Artist Fred Kabotie. The scenes depict various Hopi mythology and Hopi Religious ceremonies. Fred Kabotie was hired by the American architect Mary Coulter in 1932 to paint these distinctive images on the interior walls of the Desert View Watchtower which is located in what is now the Grand Canyon National Park. The Watchtower was paid for by the Fred Harvey Company. The Fred Harvey Company is a company that has very long and deep roots in the American Southwest history. I hope you enjoy the photos!
