Around Mt Augustus, Northern inland W. A. Hard to get a sense in photos of this size but it might give some idea of the tremendous feeling of space out there.

You've caught the feeling well. I can almost smell the dry grasses in the air. The sky really is 10 miles higher in north west West Australia. Heck, getting off the plane in Perth it's higher than most paces I know. Sounds silly until you've been there. And the silence... oh the silence out there. Deafening. It's wonderful.
