Scribbly gums and fern - Sydney

2008.01.10
Close-up of a scribbly gum trunk. Zigzag tracks are tunnels made by the larvae of a moth.

In Lane Cove National Park in Sydney's northern suburbs. This gum tree (Eucalyptus haemastoma) gets its common name from the zigzag tracks which are tunnels made by the larvae of a moth called Ogmograptis scribula.

Added - the larvae do no harm.
