ROMAN STRANGE DAYS...

2007.11.20

Strange days these days.
Strange days the days where you can go on assignement to take pictures of ancient ruines in the most beautiful town in the world and you suddenly discover real life, real dramas as a mother who lives and lies on the ground with her baby and still smiles....
Strange days these days, where nobody cares...

PS > I got lots of private messages asking where and why I shot these pics.
It's Rome, Italy, few miles far from the Vatican City, the Colosseum, and all the magnificence anyone knows...
I do know there are countries and places where the situation definitely is really worse, where even a glass of water is a luxury item...
I decided to post this set just because today is November 20 and the date 20 November, marks the day on which the UN Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989.

DancingDolphin Where are they taken? Actually, I think people do care... obviously you do... we just can't "fix" everything. Thanks for showing us... I saved the last one.

Lumierenatural I think it is important for use when we sit with a coffee a meal a glass of wine being warm and comfortable to look at your post and think really think of how fortunate we are and do one good deed for the day every day.
Thanks for sharing

carmitage Arn't they Roms ? I agree with you, it is shocking to see
a mother and a child living on the ground... somehow these
people have chosen to live this kind of life. They don't want to
be locked in a house, they want to be free.
I saw in Roumania young Rom kidds begging in the street, half naked in the cold to bring pitty on them.
Not because they had no clothes to wear !

But you are right, today is the celebration of the Convention of the
Rights of the child, and this is a good thing. Unfortunately it hasn't been acknowledge by everyone in the UN.

Thank you for reminding us what it is all about

miclaud Hard to see that! Very nice report...

chrisfly Powerful! The photos are great, but the reality is not how we want it to be. These scenes can be found everywhere in the "rich" world, and it is sad. Thanks for sharing these, and thanks for reminding on the 20 of november..

JuliaGotz a very strong series. I find picture 4 gets the sense of anxiety, and 5 is beautiful. good to have the context for that picture.
