In a predictable sequence, they went straight back to the late 60's and early 70's, when they were in love with each other and with their youth. My brother and I are the living legacy of that time.

Powered by Photoblog.com

We spent a whole day in the impressive gallery, where she is completing a two-year site sensitive residency. My guest bedroom for the night was the room of a 4-year-old princess. That was a bizarre feeling. But the bed inspired us greatly so we made some portraits of Aga and her husband, Sebastian.

Flash Forward focuses on emerging talent that jurors have identified as having great potential. 30 photographers from Canada, 30 from the USA, and 30 from the UK have been selected by a panel of jurors.

I have been lucky enough to be selected as one of the UK photographers.

The initial exhibition and book launch will be held at Lennox Contemporary in Toronto, on 8th October 2009. The touring exhibition will move from Toronto through to New York and will end up in Boston in April 2010.

All 90 photographers will be published in the book, due to be released on 8th October 2009.

30 selected photographers will have their work included in the touring exhibition. The first three images in this post have been selected for the exhibition.
Needless to say, I am quite thrilled. For those of you who happen to be close to Toronto or the other visited cities - I think it will be a very interesting selection of work to see.

Hope to see you along the way!

Among other creative activities, Gemma is one of Cardiff's burlesque dancers. We met at 8 am in a park in the city centre, walked for a bit and the next things I knew we were both in the river Taff.

This is a tribute to rebirth.
Fresh and crisp.

"At night, when you’re sleeping, and the whole world is sleeping around you, the sea rises. Its salty tongues come in, silently, into towns and cities, into houses and parking lots, through driveways and backyards; it flows into dark bedrooms and studies. It stops for a moment, for a deep breath, collecting its harvest, before slowly retracting its hands across the sleeping land.
And in those faithful hands, thousands of empty bottles filled with desperate notes, written for the sea to gently carry, flow out of the night.
And the sea will rage and foam at the mouth, and crash the bottles against the rocks, and the notes will soak, and then dissolve, and the ink will stain the sea blue for as long as there are people.

The sea in constant fury grinds bones into fine powder.
Sailors, Damned drifters,
The cigarette glow…
Your last visible lighthouse."

Diana Ali, an artist and curator, has organised an exhibition called Subversive Correspondence that talks about the art of dialogue in the modern world. I submitted the above piece of writing that she included in the show. The first exhibition took place in Bristol in July. After that, it is moving to London and opens on the 19th of August at The Gallery in Willesden Green.
