Children's Theories on Extinction

This picture respresents an ongoing interest of the children I teach into prehistoric times. During the week we have been talking about volcanoes and how their eruptions are like a giant sneeze. Some of the children's questions have prompted me to find out more information online - the thoughts of 4-5 year-olds are amazing! On another note, here are the theories of four of the children as to why the dinosaurs became extinct... S: “An asteroid fell onto the ground and all of the dust blocked out the Sun and made the world dark and cold”. E: “Maybe they ran out of food because it was so cold and the shops had closed, and then they died”. G: ”Maybe it was a volcano and it erupted lava all over the place, and the dinosaurs went “oooch ouch” because the ground was so hot”. M: “It was a big earthquake that made the world shake and crack”.

Flower Bed: One Month On

It has been a month since I dug up and replaced the flower bed in my (small) backyard. Everything is growing well and I even have a few flowers. :) I wonder what next month will bring?

My Assistant at the Kindergarten brought her pet lizards for the children to meet and greet on Monday morning. Our group of four year-olds were so well-behaved and listened very attentively! :)

Here is the cake I teased you with in the previous post, just in time for the Mother's Day afternoon tea I hosted for my family on Sunday. Made from sponge, homemade raspberry mousse, gelatin and a generous splash of blackcurrant liquor, it really did taste better than it looks in this picture! ;)

A Mother's Day morning tea was held at my Kindergarten on Friday morning - a good turn-out and both the children and adults seemed to have a nice time. Thankfully the weather held and we all got outside (although it *did* look a little ominous throughout the morning). I spent my afternoon cleaning and setting up for next week's sessions, giving my little area of the office a much-needed overhaul. No paperwork from 2006 lying around anymore! :D P.S. - I have a new little addiction, otherwise known as Freecycle. An online friend got me into it, and now I can't stop looking at my local Freecycle group - a great way to get rid of clutter! :)

Naughty me, I bring my work home again - wrapping the children's Mother's Day presents before their morning tea on Friday. Sadly, there aren't enough hours in the work day sometimes - not that I don't mind creating brightly-wrapped materpieces. ;)

Thank you everyone, for your kind words yesterday about Tweety (our family's Lovebird). My brother has no doubt read your comments, as he always checks in on my blog *waves to Chris*. Tuesday was a busy day, squeezing in an appointment to get my next hormone injection, filling in for another teacher in their afternoon session, and getting dinner on the table. Needless to say, I slept well that night. ;)
