NUESTRA CINEMATOGRAFÍA TODAVÍA ES MUY INCIPIENTE Por Ciro Guerra La Ley de Cine abrió un abanico de posibilidades que antes no existía para el crecimiento del cine colombiano, pero lamentablemente nuestras películas se comunican con un público demasiado pequeño. Pensar que es deber del cine cambiar la imagen del país lleva a que éste se encuentre sujeto a un montón de cosas que no dejan que progrese, quitándole toda su capacidad transformadora y de revolución para convertirla en un entretenimiento que sólo complace y no pone en riesgo nada. No es responsabilidad del cine cambiar la imagen de Colombia. La actitud de satanizar al cine por tocar temas delicados es similar a la de quemar libros. La tendencia es quitarle al cine toda su capacidad transformadora y de revolución para convertirla en un entretenimiento que complazca y no ponga en riesgo nada. Su preocupación artística es casi mínima, por lo que el nivel del cine colombiano todavía es muy precario, en especial en su lenguaje. Existe una preocupación muy grande por el mensaje que se quiere transmitir o no transmitir, hasta el punto de que a veces lo único que importa es la simple necesidad de entretener. Pero en lo que respecta a construir un lenguaje, o a cómo se puede narrar desde Colombia, hay una discusión que todavía está en un nivel bastante precario. Mucha gente quiere hablar de la realidad, pero no existe una idea estética de cómo expresar o transmitir esa realidad. La Ley de Cine todavía no es suficiente para estimular una creación artística más arriesgada. El cine no es literatura y en ocasiones parece que no se desprende de ésta. El cine de vanguardia en el mundo se está moviendo a otro nivel, mucho más avanzado que el de aquí, donde la mayoría de las veces sólo pretende satisfacer expectativas. En el país existe un potencial muy grande no sólo de gente talentosa sino de historias por contar. El número de películas que se está haciendo ahora no corresponde en Colombia a un nivel alto de calidad, pues cada año tenemos una o dos películas que tienen algo bueno, pero el resto es desechable; por tanto, se requiere buscar mayor calidad técnica y una mayor habilidad narrativa porque nuestra cinematografía todavía es muy incipiente. El cine nacional se está consolidando como una industria local para llegar a un punto de equilibrio. Vemos que el próximo paso que se está dando es proyectar estas películas en el mercado mundial, pero todavía queda mucho por decir y, sobre todo, por mostrar. El cine colombiano está muy centrado en lo urbano, específicamente en Bogotá. Esto hace que se caiga en clichés y que se quede por fuera el resto del país. Hay mucho país por mostrar, falta rodar películas en La Guajira, en el Amazonas; nunca se ha rodado una película en el Chocó. Todavía queda mucha geografía por mostrar, no sólo en términos topográficos. Existe toda una geografía que no es sólo física sino espiritual y mental, donde se incluyen el pensamiento, las costumbres, todo lo que somos. En Colombia se hablan más de ochenta lenguas y eso nunca se ha aprovechado en el cine. Eso no se ha visto. Por otro lado, la crítica es importante y necesaria. Es responsabilidad de ésta ayudar a que el cine colombiano avance como lenguaje. En eso estamos muy quedados, al igual que en la construcción de guiones; a mí me ha tocado desempeñarme como guionista debido a la falta tan evidente de personas que ejerzan este oficio con seriedad en el país. La creación cinematográfica colombiana todavía está muy ligada a la escritura en un sentido literario, por lo cual se siente pobreza en el lenguaje audiovisual. Casi todo parece teatro filmado y literatura ilustrada. Necesitamos urgentemente independencia en ese aspecto. Independencia que no se va a poder lograr sin un desarrollo adecuado de los guiones.
