We spend our 2008 summer vacation on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. First day was cut short due the storm remnant of Hurricane Gustav. Luckily, Day 2 was without rain. We spent Day 2, our first full-day on the island, walking from the northern part of the island where we stayed at all the way to Punta Sur, the southernmost tip of the island. That came out to about 15 miles walk round-trip (the whole island is approximately 7-mile long). It was a long hot walk (blisters and sunburn to prove it), but the gorgeous view at Punta Sur and having earn the bragging right for walking the island from tip to tip was well worth it :)

Niagara Falls - II. Butterfly Conservatory

Beside gorgeous waterfalls, Niagara Parks also features Butterfly Conservatory, which contains over 2000 exotic butterflies of the world in a tropical rainforest setting. It was such a enjoyment to be able to photograph these beatiful creatures up close.

I had great opportunity to enjoy marvelous sigtseeing while attending a conference at Niagara Falls, ON, Canada this past summer. Niagara in the summer is absolutely fabulous! This first set is Maid of the Mist tour to get up-close and personal with both the American Fall and the Horseshoe Fall.

Hootie & the Blowfish Concert at Billy Bob's Texas - Fort Worth, TX 06.28.08 I was glad to finally see one of my favorite band live in concert. Our seatings were also nice enough for me to get plenty of good shots of the guys, especially Darius "Hootie" Rucker, the lead singer of the group. I can't believe he's gone country now, actually coming our with a solo country album :p

Bunnies

Sorry I haven't post in a while. But in celebration of Easter and in honor of the Easter Bunny, I'm finally doing a post on bunnies...my neighbor's bunnies that is. These pictures were taken a few years back (2006) when these guys had been raiding my garden in the past, and were finally caught red-handed. Such troublemakers they were, but nonetheless, they were good model as well. I have not seen these guys of late, so I'm assuming they still do well in my neighbor's backyard :p

"Spaceship Earth"

I visited Disney World last month while attending a conference, so I had the opportunity to do a sideline visit to Epcot (one of Disney Theme Parks). The most interesting feature that attracted me to this park is probably this easily recognizable architecture of Epcot, "Spaceship Earth". Being a fan of interesting architectural landmark, "Spaceship Earth" certainly attracted my attention. Spaceship Earth is a geodesic sphere supported on legs. Geometrically, Spaceship Earth is a pentakis dodecahedron, with each of the 60 isosceles triangle faces divided into 16 smaller equilateral triangles (with a bit of fudging to make it rounder). Each of those 960 flat panels is sub-divided into four triangles, each of which is divided into three isosceles triangles to form each point. In theory, there are 11,520 total isosceles triangles forming 3840 points. In reality, some of those triangles are partially or fully nonexistent due to supports and doors; there are actually only 11,324 of them, with 954 partial or full flat panels. Inside "Spaceship Earth" houses a recently updated ride called "Project Tomorrow: Inventing the Wonders of the Future". The ride experience begins with the Omnimover vehicles ascending into a dark tunnel. A series of twinkling stars surround guests. Soon, guest's pictures are taken on a face-recognition program that is to be featured in the attraction's post-show. Guests then re-enter the starfield, and move through series of historical scenes of human society. The remainder of the ride is involved in seeing a depiction of Earth from space, traveling through an infinite amount of stars and into another star field where guests can then use the touch-screens in their Omnimover vehicle to create a possible depiction of their future.
