is the onomatopoeia for the sound of a cat "meow" or "miaow"? who knows..

Anywho, I currently have classes three times a week. Not too much homework yet but there will be some coming up. Courses seems interesting so far. Last weekend I went to Sinchon and witnessed a big event for a lot of students in Seoul, the Yon-Ko festival. Every year the two biggest universities (Yonsei and Korea Uni.) have competitions this weekend in different sports. On the saturday arvo and evening they gather (this time in sinchon) in large groups and sing, dance and drink heaps of soju and maekju (beer). It was pretty crazy and fun to watch all the mad korean kids.

Ok I always go to bed way too late, so i'm going to try to sleep now.

bonne nuit.

서울 means Seoul in Korean. I have now been in the southern korean capital for a little more than 2 weeks. I really like the city so far. This asian mega city has a population of 11 million (23 million including suburbs) and it will take a while to explore. The metro map is insane and it takes a while to figure out how to get anywhere, but you'll learn with some patience.

Seoul has been growing super fast the last 20 years. This explains the sometimes bad city planning, but I think it has its charm. When I exit a metro station and come up above ground there is a new area to discover. A city with a interesting mix of old and new for sure.

Anywho, I have also started school. One week of add/drop courses so far. I live on campus, which is pretty small. I share room with a german guy, simon. It is still pretty warm and humid during daytime here, about 25-30 degrees celcius. However, the temperature falls drastically in the evening to about 15.

more updates to come. ciao.

Powered by Photoblog.com

before going to seoul i visited Hong Kong. it was my second time in this buzzling city and I really love it. Hong Kong has something that Singapore lacks of, some kind of roughness that kind of contributes to the soul and personality of the city. Hard to explain I guess, but it's my feeling. So I lived at the same hostel as 1.5 years ago, the HK Hostel in causeway bay. I met up with some old friends but i also made new ones. I ate a lot of good food, and especially my favourite cantonese dish, which i proudly can pronounce in cantonese. i'm talking about this one:
beef chow fun

Besides strolling around in soho, TST and causeway bay I also visited a temple and went to Tai O fishing village on Lantau Island. I really liked this little town. Unfortunately something happened with my memory card after this visit so only a few photos could be saved. I hate when technology does not work..grrr..

okidoki, bye bye for now HK, but I for sure will be back!

I went back to singapore 1,5 years after my exchange semester there. It was a visit with mixed feelings I guess. All my exchange student friends were gone and I met up with only singaporians, one mauritian and one dutch boy. I was a tourist. I went to some places i did not go when I lived there but I also went back to some places were i felt sentimental to come back to. Here are a couple of photos from my days.

This post is showing a couple of photos from my Holga camera that i brought with me to Roskilde Music festival, one of the biggest music festivals in Europe. The photos are from a 120mm film and in sweden it cost a fortune to develop these.

The music festival was a lot of fun. Before going I was a music-festival-that-involves-living-in-a-tent-virgin but it went well. And you see a lot of weird things on a festival. A friend i bumbed into told me that "i have almost lost faith in human kind here.." because of some experiences she had there. I just thought that especially in the end of the week the huge camping area looked like a refugee camp with drunk people. The weather was great all the time, very sunny and about 25 degrees. My hair got very bleached by the sun. Some people even thought I dyed my hair when they met me after the festival.

I saw a lot of good bands and met many fun people. The shows I enjoyed most was
Mew (famous danish band, dreamy depressing rock..ish)
The whitest boy alive (norweigan/german indie pop)
Mono (instrumental japanese post-rock. I got goose bumps)
Friendly fires (brittish happy electronica-pop-indie)
Coldplay (although not a huge fan, I must say they put on a good show. I enjoyed it)
Håkan Hellström (very popular swedish pop dude from my hometown göteborg)
and many many more.

adieu.

Powered by Photoblog.com

I am currently in Gothenburg, my hometown. On monday morning at 5 am i came back from Roskilde music festival. It was crazy! I had a lot of fun, saw many good concerts and met many interesting people. The weather was also great. I have slept better though. I came back to my tent pretty late every day and always woke up at 8-10ish because the tent was super hot. Then it was impossible to fall asleep again.
Also, I must say that the camping area looked like a huge refugee camp. But no starving children were seen. Instead there were drunk people dancing, peeing, running around naked etc.

After a couple of days with farewells and recovering i am now in my familys house in gothenburg.

I did not bring my digital SLR to Roskilde. Instead i brought my plastic Holga camera, but you wont see those photos until I developed them. Instead todays post will just feature people I know. All of them are taken within the last year. I love taking portraits. I love how unique people are and I try to capture that in my photos. and yes, I know there are only asian girls, but they are all from different countries: brittish/malay, thai (with chinese heritage) and japanese. The guys are all Swedish good looking boys. So, here you go.

au revoir.

The semester has ended and the weather is getting better and better here in Denmarks capital city. That means that I spend more time outside. I went to the beach the other day and took a swim. Still a bit chilly but after 30 seconds in the water it feels kinda nice. I think its still only 15 °C or something.

Ok, I am too tired to write more now. A photo says to much more.

adios.

In the lovely country of Sweden we celebrate something called Midsummer, the longest day of the year. An old tradition that is very popular. In the good old times people were always wearing traditional folk clothing and danced around the midsummer pole (which apparently represents fertility so it is suppose to look like a penis). However, nowadays it is mostly just an excuse to meet friends, drink and eat. Potatoes and harring are classics. And people drink lots of schnaps etc. Actually it is still the day of the year when most children are "being made".

Ok, enough about that. I went to the archipelago outside Stockholm to meet up with old friends from Göteborg. It was really nice. We had low expectations for the weather, but it turned out ok at last. In Stockholm I also met up with friends I have met in Lund and in Singapore. I also had a mini-reunion with a friend from high school, ten years ago! And it was great meeting up with these people as well.

Now I have summer holidays and trying to enjoy my free days in copenhagen. Next week I am going to Roskilde music festival.

I made a polaroid series of photos this time.

Zai jian.
