Flight to Friday Harbor

Just returned home from a Sunday visit to picture perfect town in the San Juan Islands off the Cost of Washington USA. My good friend recently bought a beautiful Grummand airplane and wanted to take it on a long full day adventure. We flew out of a small airport outside Portland Oregon and landed in Friday Harbor Washington. This picture postcard city is connected to the main land by ferry and airplane. This airport is very popular with NW pilots because it is located close to the city center. You can fly in and within 10 minutes walk to the city center which is located around a picturesque harbor. We enjoyed a lunch overlooking the harbor and spent a couple hours walking around the district and harbor.

Learning to Ski Again

It has been several years since I have skied on a regular basis. This year a group of my friends from work decided to take advantage of the abundant snow we received this year and have gone up several times. The first image is the view from the Top of Mount Hood if you look closely you can see Mt Jefferson some 50 + miles to the south. I am still not what you would call "Pretty" on skis but my buddies are slowly bringing me up to speed. Good by winter, I will miss you..... well a little any way.... (:

Snow Day!

We do not get a lot of snow in the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States, but a couple times a year we get enough to forget the books for the day and play. We live up a fairly steep hill that makes for the perfect sledding area. What fun we had! (:

Ski trip to Taos

Been gone from Photoblog for a while but not gone for good. (: A good friend of mine who is a wine maker lets me tag along on his annual trip to Taos New Mexico for a winter wine festival. Lets see, good food, wine, sun and skiing and time with some of the most interesting people you will ever meet...... The only problem is that it seems to go by way too quickly. (:

Belated Thanksgiving Photos

Better late than never eh? This year Thanksgiving had a very special meaning for me. My parents who spend the winter in Arizona made it to my home in Oregon for thanksgiving. With four brothers and sisters who also live in Arizona and so many friends it is a bit of a competition to have them here in the Northwest. (: My father who was a master chef early in his career and my mother also a hell of a good cook always put on a show. They arrive a week early and thought about and crafted every wonderful detail of this meal. The best part though is simply spending time with whom are, truthfully, some of the warmest most genuine people you will ever meet. They both love people and have the most wonderful sense of humor. After raising 5 children they claim that it comes with the territory. They say you can’t go home again, but you know, for one evening, I did... and I am grateful. My we invited my wife's family and a visiting coworker from Japan who experienced some traditional dishes for the first time. Looking back, I am very thankful indeed. (:

I have been absent this fall - too much going on in a busy life. (: My daughter spent last Saturday with a friend and had fun with a pile of leaves. This picture makes me smile.

Today was a perfect summer day for a family outing. Just 45 minutes from our home outside Portland Oregon is the Columbia River Gorge scenic area. In addition to visiting the Vista house, a historic landmark, we hiked around Latourell and Multnomah falls. On the way home we went down town to enjoy a fine Italian meal at one of our favorite restaurants. It was a wonderful day for all.
