I didn't make it.

Why?

I hadn't eaten lunch and was starving when my tummy decided that it really, REALLY wanted a hamburger curry from Curry House. There is one on the way to the park but unfortunately it closes between 2:30-5:30. The only one relatively close that is open all day was in Torrance, which would add about 20 mins to my drive. I did it anyway but that meant I just barely made it in time to start putting the set together. For some reason we were also running kind of late and by this time I wanted to collapse from hunger so I decided not to try to take any photos of the trees.

Good performance tonight - a lot of really large mosquitos so I was a concentrating more on keeping them away from me than the show. (they flock to me for some reason, i guess I'm one of those unlucky people who emit some kind of smell that attracts them) I managed to swat several away from me but still got bit a couple times. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't swell up and itch so badly at every bite location.

Powered by Photoblog.com

It was a nice little park with a lot of dog owners walking their dogs. It always puts me in a good mood to see so many happy dogs running about.

I was sitting on the grass with everyone, putting on my makeup, and when I went to reach into my backpack I noticed this bee walking around on it. I didn't get stung, which is good. I think it was sick or dying because it was walking around very erratically.

Not much else to report. It's been really busy with work and this show and I don't really have time for much else, unfortunately, so my life is kind of boring right now.

Powered by Photoblog.com

I had a lot to do at work since I wasn't there all day yesterday. I also tried to catch up with everyone's posts today and I think I did for the most part. I can't believe how just a couple days of not keeping up with other people's entries can really pile up - but it's great because that means everyone is keeping up with their blogs! : )

I did some shopping online today as well. I am still on a search for a dress for my friend's wedding. I bought one because it was really inexpensive but I'd rather not wear it, so it's my backup for now in case I don't find anything else. I've had my eye on the dress I posted for a couple days now but I am a little leery about strapless dresses. I've never worn one but it seems like when I see girls who are wearing strapless dresses, all they do is hike the dress up all night, which I don't want to do. It's also more than I really want to spend. So should I, shouldn't I?? Well, I still have a month, maybe it will go on sale. That would probably make me buy it.

As for the melon, my dad decided to pick it because someone had taken a smaller one that was growing on the vine and smashed it. He didn't want our melon to meet the same fate! I had to cut it open to find out if it was really a canteloupe. It looks and smells like it. If it grew somewhere cleaner I'd risk taking a bite to taste it but it's so nasty and filthy where it was growing I'd rather not. It was fun watching it grow - I really wish I could have a little vegetable garden! Well, someday....

Powered by Photoblog.com

I was feeling extremely frustrated afterwards because I wonder if I should have listened to my gut feeling and sung a different song. My voice teacher was so adamant about how wonderful I sounded singing this one song I reluctantly agreed to sing it at the audition. Thing is, I sang it well and I'm sure it sounded great but I know in my hear it just wasn't what they were looking for (both in sound and style). I know I have to let it go and I know that in another six months or so they'll have auditions again but I'm annoyed and angry for not trusting myself and my instincts. I feel like I threw away another opportunity. Sigh.

I didn't take any photos at the audition, too upset to do so. I just took some random shots when I was eating lunch with a friend and when I went to an outlet store afterwards.

Powered by Photoblog.com

I try to plan things and I end up not doing a lot of what I planned on because I just can't seem to do anything in a timely manner, which is starting to get very frustrating.

I've wanted to go early to the last two venues we were at so I could take some pictures but it just hasn't happened for various reasons, which was the case today. I was running late again all day today so by the time I got to Irvine I only had about 20 minutes left before I had to go help put up the set. I also tried to take pictures during the show while I was waiting backstage but then it was too dark, so not many photos today : (

Anyway, we were back in Irvine tonight to perform Midsummer to a wonderful crowd of 2300, which was really cool! I still can't believe there were so many people there. I think the most I ever performed in front of was 1000...

Powered by Photoblog.com

I have no idea why these people strapped the poor bunny onto the top of their car. I could see that the back of the van was full (maybe with more bunnies in cages?), but couldn't the passenger hold the cage on their lap or something? The bunny was absolutely terrified and huddled in the corner of the cage shaking with fear.

Tonight we were in South Pasadena at a very pretty little park. Not much to report for today, typical day of work and then a show.

The one interesting thing tonight were the CRAZY kids that were at this performance. There is one part where Helena goes to sit in the first row of the audience and tonight it was full of children. Apparently as soon as she sat down she was mobbed by girls petting her and feeling her dress. One of them even told her "you smell nice." At the end of the show, we throw glitter and when we did the kids ran up screaming to the front of the stage to scoop up what they could and throw it around. I'm glad the kids really enjoyed the show. Their exuberance was unexpected by all of us. This was the first performance of Midsummer that we had such a large group of kids. Usually we have a lot less so they are much more subdued.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Honestly, I hope they never come back to this city. If anyone from Long Beach really wants to see the shows, they can cross the bridge to San Pedro instead. It was a terrible location the city had us set up in, just a few feet away from a very busy street, so we were constantly battling traffic noise. The audience was really awful - it was like as if they were all really drunk and rowdy. The worst part was not being able to use the restroom - I don't know how bad the guy's bathrooms were but the girl's restroom had shit all over the floor and toilets in 3 of the 4 stalls. Disgusting.

Anyway, I went early to see if there was anything interesting to take a picture of. Not so much during the day. It looked better at night but i had no time during the show to take pictures and afterwards it wasn't the kind of neighborhood I would feel comfortable being alone that late at night.

Powered by Photoblog.com

I would take something else but sometimes I have weird reactions to OTC stuff so I didn't want to just randomly try something new.

I know part of it is from working out more (and suddenly rather than gradually, stupid me) and part of it is from lifting things that are probably a little too heavy for me when we're building/taking down the set.

Maybe I'll just take it easy this week, although that's kind of hard since if we don't all pull our weight then that means that much less time to get into makeup and costume and I have an audition coming up that I want to look/feel my best for.
