I changed the gel on the front light for a lighter one and then had a go at taking my own photograph. My model was busy with a good book!

For me, other than they are my ugly mug and apologies for not shaving first, I think they are getting closer to what I was after.

Ok did you guess how I put the shadow pattern on the back wall? Well this time I used an empty laundry basket. I have put a shot up of the set up for you to see. When I took the first couple of shots the blue light from behind me was contaminating the light from the front. To get around this I put a snoot on the blue light for greater control.

Powered by Photoblog.com

The warming gel on the first one is a little too strong for my liking.

The second one was without any background gel flash being used and no warming gel on the main light. For me it is a little too cool.

Will now work on getting the balance right (as long as my model cooperates :-))

Ok here is a little competition for you. Can anyone guess what I shot the blue flash through to get the shadow effect on the wall? The correct term is a cookie.

I will post a set up shot at a later date but in the mean time will keep you guessing.

Powered by Photoblog.com

We found an old fish tank (without fish of course!), gave it a good clean and then set it up on a white background. Wont tell you how many times the FaTmAn and I had to drop the objects in to the water to get an image but suffice to say it was lots!!

Edit
Cherax noted that the exif data doesn't show up. Not sure why that is. So here is a little more info:

Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Tv(Shutter Speed): 1/125Sec.
Av(Aperture Value): F8.0
Metering Modes: Evaluative metering
ISO Speed: 100
Lens: EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM
Focal Length: 110.0 mm

The way we did it was to hold the object above the fish tank, count down from three to one and drop the object. Then it was a matter of timing to get the shot. No fast bursts just pure timing and luck :-)

Powered by Photoblog.com
