Time For a Breather

Well, I got a job with a construction company called Carpenter Masonry about a week ago, and it's my dream job in a lot of ways - instead of being inside at a computer all day under artificial light, I'm outside working my muscles, getting some sun, and sweating up a storm. I worked most of last week then Saturday, and was about ready for some time with Branson. She'd been taking pictures of her sisters during the week, and I decided it was a shame someone as beautiful as her wasn't photographed more often. So anyway, it was brutally hot outside, but we headed out to the park and I snapped a few photos. Here's my favorite... =)

Flags, Flora, and Fauna

Despite the intense heat we've been experiencing lately, Branson and I decided to head out on an early morning photo expedition (well, 10am, but it seemed early at the time). We didn't actually wind up beating the heat, but we did manage to get some shots before we melted. We headed down to a little garden area in Plum Creek Park, where there were plenty of sniffle-inducing flowers (still haven't adapted to the plants and pollens of Nebraska fully) and critters flitting around them. I also managed to pull back a little and take some non-macros, something I've been wanting to do a little more of these days (I still love macro, but some times the big picture is more attractive).

What do you get when my wife insists and insists then insists again that I finally grab my camera and take some pictures? Well, you get me taking pictures obviously, because here they are. I've been in this state for about two weeks now (my b-day was the 12th) and this is the first time I took a look around me to see what I could see through the eye of my camera. I didn't have to go any further than the yard of the house we're living in, so there's still much to be seen of this glorious state. However, this will do for now...

Bird Watching

I swear, this title makes sense...by birds, I mean Cardinals, and by Cardinals, I mean the St Louis Cardinals (the team, not the actual birds who live near us in the city)... It's feels like it's been a really long time since I posted here. Many of you know I'm in the process of moving to Nebraska at the end of this month, and my wife already moved out there at the end of May, and things have been a little crazy since! Not so crazy that I couldn't have found time to grab my camera and snap some photos, but I'm a horrible time manager when my wife isn't around, and often can't find the time or motivation to do stuff I'd normally be doing. I've missed the photography, though, and I've also missed taking the time to drop by here and see what everyone else has been up to, which I always enjoy. So, here's hoping I'll get back into the swing of things photography-wise very soon here. My wife is coming back to Missouri tomorrow for some move related things and to visit some friends (and me, of course), so I'll get to see her for the first time in over three weeks! Yay! I went to visit my older brother Ron in St Louis this past weekend (I have four brothers total), and we hung out in the city and he took me to see the St Louis Cardinals play. I can't remember the last time I went to a ball game, but the tickets were suite tickets, and it was a lot of fun. A nice break too, because I really haven't done much besides sit around at my temporary residence since my wife left. Here's hoping that changes in the last couple of weeks out here, maybe even with my camera in tow!

Bye Bye Birdies

I haven't taken a lot of photos lately, things have just been crazy busy lately, and it's been pouring rain almost constantly which puts me in a mood not conducive to taking pictures. I did get some shots of the baby birds on my porch, but as of this moment, the nest has been empty for several days - they finally flew the "coop". I managed to get a shot of one of them right after he first flew up and out of the nest, too bad I didn't know he was going to fly for the first time or I might have caught him in action. So here's the "saga" of the birds as much as I was able to capture them. I hope to finally get around to looking at what everyone has posted lately, I never meant to give that up even with no pics of my own (like I said, crazy busy around here)...

Theme: Vintage

Well, it wasn't hard to decide what to photograph here, since I decided to take the approach of photographing vintage objects, and the only such posessions I own are vintage era Star Wars figures. They're not in the best of shape, because back in my day, we played with this stuff as kids, we didn't have them shrink wrapped in acid free wrapping kept in smoke-free light-free environments. If the dog or mower wanted to chew them up, that was just fine with us... =P I gave them some creative poses, since they're not terribly interesting on their own...

Branching Out

Well, last week, I covered the critters out in yard, then I shot some flower pics, now lastly (but certainly not "leastly"), here are some shots of the greener side of things in the yard. Green is one of my favorites colors, and it felt like a shame to overlook plants that didn't have flowery blooms or bugs walking on them. =P

I know, not the most creative title in the universe, but I don't have a lot of time online this evening, and thinking creatively is nowhere on tonight's agenda. I snapped some shots of some of the outdoor flora the other day while I was looking for critters in my yard. Glad I took them when I did, because I mowed for the first time this season, and our yard is looking pretty bare now (while I loved the dandelions, I'm pretty sure the neighbors will appreciate their absence).

In Search of Critters

Well, the softball game got rained out yesterday, which bummed me out, because the weather actually turned sunny a few hours before the game, but they said water was pooled on the field and we couldn't play *sigh*. Oh, well...it happens. At least the basement didn't flood again, for that I can be thankful (when I dreamt of an indoor swimming pool, it never had boxes and coolers floating around in it). I resorted to wandering around my yard again looking for stuff to photograph. One thing I was looking for was critters, and while I did find a few, they weren't exactly of the terribly unique variety, but oh, well!
