Oregon also has improved its entire general operations with the housing of its entire staff on the second level of the facility since its opening during the summer of 1991.

Serving as the cornerstone of the 102,000 square foot facility is the expanded locker room for football and weight room accomodations for all sports. The cost of the two-story structure, which was formally dedicated on Sept. 27, 1991, exceeded $12 million and the entire Autzen improvement project hit nearly $18 million at its conclusion.

The completed locker room is almost four times the size of the previous facility. The project's lower level also includes a modern medical treatment area, practice accomodations for wrestling and equipment facilities for football and wrestling.

The upper floor contains offices for all of the department.s coaches and administrators, conference rooms,audio/visual studios and exhibit and exposition centers for the university as well.

The Pittman Room is furnished with kitchen facilities and is utilized during the season for training table where the football player can enjoy the evening meal before departing the football complex.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Located north of the University of Oregon campus, it is the home field of the Oregon Ducks of the Pacific-10 Conference. Originally opened in 1967, the stadium has undergone several expansions; the official capacity is 54,000, though official attendance has exceeded that number every game since 1999

In 2002, a $90 million facelift and expansion added seating and luxury boxes to the south sideline, bringing capacity up to its current size.

Autzen is known for its crowd noise. On October 27, 2007, during a 24-17 defeat of the USC Trojans, a record crowd of 59,277 fans was recorded at 127.2 decibels. A similarly-loud 31-27 upset of third-ranked Michigan in 2003 prompted a Michigan Daily columnist to write[5]

“ Autzen's 59,000 strong make the Big House sound like a pathetic whimper. It's louder than ... The Swamp at Florida, The Shoe in Columbus, and Death Valley at Louisiana State. Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die. ”

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr later said that Autzen Stadium was the loudest stadium he'd ever been in.[6]

In 2006, a Sporting News columnist named Autzen the most intimidating college football stadium in the nation.[7]

Lee Corso of ESPN College Gameday frequently says that; "Per person Autzen Stadium is the loudest stadium that I have ever been in my entire life!"

Besides Ducks football, Autzen also plays host to other events, marching band competitions, Oregon high school football 6A, 5A, and 4A championships (until the 2006 season), and musical concerts, including U2 and numerous performances by the Grateful Dead. It is currently the largest sporting arena in the state of Oregon. It was also used as the fictional Faber College football stadium in the 1978 movie Animal House -- most notably for the scene with Tom Hulce and Sarah Holcombs' characters ("Pinto" and "Clorette DePasto") at mid-field.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Hayward directed the Ducks’ track & field program from 1904 to 1947. Hayward Field has hosted three Olympic Trials, and a variety of National, NCAA, and Masters championships.
Hayward Field was first built as a football stadium in 1919. In 1921 a six-lane cinder track was added. The track was widened to eight lanes in 1970 and its first all-weather surface was applied. In 1983, the infield was leveled to remove a crown and improvements were made in the shot put area, the javelin runway and the high jump apron. Also added was an all-weather inner lane for jogging.

The most dramatic renovation took place in 1988. A $1.9 million dollar remodel reconfigured the track from 440 yards to a 400-meter oval. This decreased the sharp angle of the turns, a major drawback to the old 440-yard configuration. Additional projects included a 200-meter warmup track, a new hammer throw area, a weight room facility and a storage area near the southeast end of the field.

A new $200,000 scoreboard was added to the south end of the field in 1991. The computerized scoreboard shows unofficial times for the first eight finishers as they cross the finish line.

The last major addition to Hayward Field was completed in 1992. The Bowerman Building, which is located at the northwest end of the field, was made possible by a generous donation from Bill Bowerman, head track coach at the University of Oregon from 1948 until 1973. This impressive 15,000 square foot building houses locker rooms, U of O track memorabilia and the university's International Institute for Sport and Human Performance.

Powered by Photoblog.com
