Work Picnic

Last weekend was a work picnic. Partying with nuns is kind of like going to a six year old's birthday party (oh, I just realized that's the beginning of a quote from "The Office")...there are many games, there's tons of food, and mass hilarity...and some booze. A good time was had by all, though not many people showed up. In other news, my doctor managed to get me in for a fructose test this morning (!) and it was negative. Which is good news for now...though now I have to figure out what the problem actually is. I also got my Celiac antibody tested on Monday and that's still quite a bit higher than normal (though it's been going down since I started the GF diet)...so I'm of the opinion that my systems are still due to the inflammation in my stomach from Celiac. Anyway, that's boring...but hey, it'll soon be holiday time! One more loooooong (at least seemingly long) workday left.

...Enjoy the silence? whenever I can plug 80s pop music, I will. Well, today's appointment with the nutritionist informed me that I need to cut out fructose for about 2 weeks. This doesn't mean just high fructose corn syrup (which I don't eat much of anyway), but many fruits, some veggies--including CORN (which is what many, many gluten free breads and such include), and, of course, many sugars. I'll be on an all meat, all potato and white rice diet. Weird. I'm actually unbelievably frustrated with it at the moment and need to come to grips and re-evaluate my shopping lists, etc. Many of the veggies and, of course beans, will need to be limited as well, since they're gas-producing and will therefore screw with any results I'll be looking for. She actually told me that I'll feel awful for about the first week of this diet if I am actually unable to absorb fructose. Great. Very motivating. I do appreciate her vast knowledge and realistic approach to all of this, I must say. And, so...the journey begins. Again. Not as painful as the gluten-free journey beginning was. :) At any rate, I'll be dealing with that and likely cooking extremely boring, plain foods and then catching up with a bit of writing that was due yesterday (oops). I'll post a few more posts about the weekend and some past food pics in the meantime.
