I've not had a chance to get out with my camera for a long while. Alas, I have Crohn's disease, and it flared up quite badly this year - so much so that I've recently had to have surgery. I've got a lot of time on my hands, as I've been signed off work for a month to recover, so I've been going over my old photos and playing around with them in Lightroom. I really love the IR effect; I'm going to purchase a dedicated IR camera eventually, so that I don't have to resort to digital post-production all the time, but for now, playing with Lightroom is fun :-)

Yes - this is 'Digital Art', as opposed to photography. But I like em anyway ;-) I took a self portrait with my Lumix compact, then did some serious cropping, and messed about with the colours in Lightroom. I'm pleased with the results.

Nine Inch Nails Concert (Manchester, UK, 14th July 2009)

I am a HUGE fan of Nine Inch Nails. I've been into them since the mid-nineties, and, after Pink Floyd, they're my favourite band. These are pictures are from the first time I've ever seen them live (and, sadly, possibly the last time as they're 'going away for a while' after this tour according to frontman Trent Reznor). Well, they surpassed my expectations. They are AMAZING live! Anyhow, these are my (not very good) pictures from the gig. I *wish* I'd taken my DSLR; as it is I took my compact which let me down somewhat - it struggled in the low light, and as a result the pictures are quite grainy and out of focus. Still, I got a few good shots - a few of them are quite abstract which I like. Anyhow, enjoy!

I took these pictures of some straws using an LED multicoloured light box, a standard lightbox, a tripod, and a macro lens. I'm pleased with the results!

This is my first dalliance with abstract photography for quite a while. I used a multi-coloured LCD light box (the type they use for displaying crystals in hippie shops), placed on it a clear bowl full of water and washing-up liquid, and shot from above. The results are not quite as I'd hoped for, but I'll be trying this again with a wider aperture and a tripod sometime soon!

Some more shots taken in Turkey. I'm still struggling with the macro lens and am coming to the conclusion that I'm asking too much from the lens I've got (it's a Samsung100mm macro). The closer I get, the shallower the depth of field....although I did shoot mainly on automatic, so I guess I need to trial in manual mode.

Taken at Pammakule in Turkey. The whiteness is caused by calcium deposits from mineral pools. The photo's don't really do it justice - it was a stunning place!
