It wasn't until some 30 minutes after sunrise proper that the sun managed to peek through the increasing cloud cover, but the resulting view was sublime and well worth the wait (better large on black). Very sweet!

The Raleigh are never actually saw the sun during the "sunrise event," but we sure saw plenty of color in the late twilight view to remind us it was out there (better large on black)! Very sweet!

Once it got rolling, the day was absolutely beautiful, but it started out with lots of fog, and the sun couldn't burn its way through until 15 minutes after sunrise proper (better large on black). Late arriving, but sweet!

After a week of utterly cloudy mornings (and days), the Raleigh area finally enjoyed the kind of clouds that bring real beauty to the sky... the gorgeous view in the top image seen just after sunrise proper (better large on black), and above, ten minutes later, a different but equally tasty post-view, after a thin fog drifted in to soften the vista through the trees (also better LOB). At long last, a very sweet sunrise!

A few minutes after sunrise proper, in the top image, the high clouds caught the sun's first rays and turned the view into a subtle but striking study in pastels (better large on black). The view just before sunrise proper, in #2, saw the strongest color of the morning (also better LOB). By the time the sun peeked through a thin seam in the clouds, above, most of the reds were gone from the clouds, but the view was no less sublime (again, better LOB). Sweet sunrise event!

We had mostly cloudy skies in the Raleigh area this morning, but a well-positioned gap at sunrise let the sun's intense low rays flood in to produce this very satisfying post-rise view (better large on black). Very sweet!
