2008.04.23
Was about to leave after some cruise ship spotting when I noticed the Navy patrol entering the harbour after another day. Not used to getting it navigating so waited just a little while.

Dedicated to all navy personel that acomplish their missions with material that most of the time is not suitable for the job. N.R.P. 'Zaire' (P1146), was built at Mondego shipyards and delivered to Portuguese Navy in 22 of December 1971. This patrol boat was inicially designed for coastal and river patrol at old Portuguese Colonies in Africa. Still on active duty in a sea quite diferent for which it was designed. Surveillance, search and rescue, suport to the Natural Protected Islands of Desertas and Selvagens and many other stuff takes a lot of dedication from its crews in its missions around archipelago and rest of the country.

The moto on the half rounded Portuguese flag states something like this: 'Honor your homeland because she confies in you' .

Great pictures, but in the first one, I like the background!
I don't know if the pictures are from today, but this one (N.R.P. Zaire) was (or will be) replace today by another one (N.R.P. Cacine), did you catch him arrive?
