The first day of flight Operations for the Navy Lynx, started early.

Smoky start...

Launching rotors.

Securing the passengers, which were also fully equiped with glasses, life-jacket and ear protections...it's quite a loud helicopter.

Removing the final straps that arrest the helicopter to the deck.

Take-off. Got quite impressed with the speed and maneuvrability of that bird.

Sorry for the bad quality of these last 3 pics...quite early and dark. Couldn't manage high speed shutter and it was allready quite far...

A couple of hours later, guys on board were getting ready for their pics of the arrival.

And there it came.

As it got lower, started spraying water everywhere.

Right after landing. It was strapped.

After the engines stopped. It got quite smoky. As a pilot explained later. There's some fuel or oil (sorry, can't remember now) leaking system near the exausts and with their heat....

Getting the deck protections up. Before this allways though there was an automatic system for that....

Meanwhile, Corte Real begun leaving, for a soberany mission on Portuguese waters around the archipelago.

You're right! It was a great time spent on board. Too bad we ended up not seeing the rest of the ship. But we'll take care of that today...
