Day 2 of AST1 was spent entirely in the backcountry of Mount Seymour. We skinned up to just below 1st Pump Peak, stopping frequently to discuss routefinding, avalanche conditions, and to practice some more rescue drills. We dug a pit to look at the snow profile, examine the crystal structures, check the temperature gradients and perform some compression tests. Just before we skied back down, the sun came out. It was quite spectacular being above the clouds. The ski back down was tricky thanks to a horrible breakable crust and skis that were too long for me (I was on Fiona's 170 cm G3 Spitfires). We snuck in an extra couple of runs at the ski hill, before a debrief session at the end of the day.
