Congo Kinshasa III

a barber shop in the street

My last post was on 26th Jan... almost two months ago... in the meantime, i did take pictures but not that intensively. i also felt i needed a break. the film project in lebanon came to an end and i was a bit weary of taking random pictures.

i thought i'd post some of the pics i took in the DRCongo. the difficult thing here is that, if you dont have any authorization docs, you may not take pics in the street. the police can arrest you or you can get your camera smashed by a passer-by. so, unfortunately, although i spotted some extraordinary moments to capture, i couldnt. a bit frustrating. so, one day, when i was driving around the city, in my steel cocoon with a UNDP stamp on the passenger door, i tried to click the best i could to capture some evocative scenes... if some of the pictures are awkwardly framed, you know why... i still think that they have a special something. i hope.

ronin53 don't be upset: it happens to any good photoreporter to be in the right place, the right moment but surrounded by ugly atmosphere and people... Don't give up !!!

davids Excelent post and a superb commentary. I'm amazed you managed to get any pictures under those conditions. Well done.

photopoet Thanks for the words to accompany the photos—the shots are evocative and filled with an untold narrative line.
