New territories

2008.04.28
Yesterdays little Wisdom path led us wanting something a little more of a challenge. The Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail proved to be just that. Mainly cause the fake LonelyPlanet we were using had a terrible map of it (it was impossible to stay on track) and the taxi driver didn't know where we wanted to go. No habla Chinese, they habla nothing else. Using the picture in the guidebook we got him to drive us to this building or rather walled city. Lo Wai, the first one there was apparently. It's number four on the list of things to see along the trail but since we didn't want to backtrack we went forward from here.

We figured the heritage trail would be mainly museum-like buildings but people were actually living in this walled city. They even had dogs, rather scary ones too.

In Tin Hau Kung we found these most friendly of people preparing some kind of sacrifice for Buddha(?). It might also have been a potluck dinner.

Given the state of our map many a sight went by without us realising it. Is this really something of importance? After getting lost one too many times we headed back for the old territories. So didn't see the beginning or the end and just parts of the middle. The outback proved to be rather shady, but in a pleasant way.

The biggest has-to of HK is going up on the Peak, preferably with the Peak Tram, to watch the majestic views of the city. The major problem is that some meteorological phenomena makes sure there is a constant rainy fog surrounding this peak. Picking the right day of ones HK trip to go up there is tricky. We chose this afternoon.

Passed some other HK things on the way before we took the tram up.

On this peak has been built this most horrific of buildings, guess it was okay with city planning since it is rarely detectable from the city! The Peak is not just about the views of the city but shopping. The mall here holds a surprising array of shops including a Hard Rock Café souvenir store. No Café in sight...

Back down on Kowloon.

I'm not much of a person to take photos of food so this is a bit of an exception, especially since it's not even food. I took it since I wanted to remember this interesting drink. It is hot coke with ginger. Have never before heard of such a thing and haven't seen one since. Would definitely buy again though...
