My friend and I landed at JFK shortly before 8AM and decided to take public transportation to Manhattan a la the AirTrain to the E subway line. It was fairly straightforward and saved us about $50 in taxi fares.
After checking into the hotel and a failed attempt to find the
Wafels & Dinges truck in the Village...we ventured over to Brooklyn for some red velvet cake at
Cake Man Raven Confectionary.
Oh...and whoever is responsible for the address numbering in Brooklyn (at least on Fulton St.) should be heavily reprimanded. The numbering on one side of the street is independent of the other...and we didn't realize this until we walked about a half-dozen blocks or so. Grrr...
We hopped back on the subway to a desolate Coney Island, where we partook in hot dogs from the original Nathan's (followed by finally eating the aforementioned red velvet cake).
We then made a quick stop to the Green-Wood Cemetery to view some of their ornate structures and tombstones.
Our final stop in Brooklyn was at the much-lauded bridge. Our intent was to just take a quick shot from one end and then get back on the subway...but by the time we got to the foot of the bridge, we decided we might as well just walk across. Since this was my first trip across the Brooklyn Bridge...it had to be my picture of the day...
Back on the Manhattan side, I watched Xanadu sans my friend. She wasn't keen on watching a musical based on an '80s pop musical movie. But, I have to saw, 'twas lots of fun.
We finished off a loooooong day with a trip to Cafe Lalo...and I couldn't resist the cheese plate. Mmm...cheese. I just wish I had enough room in my stomach for dessert. Ah well...maybe next time...
For those of you expecting more pictures...I apologize...I'm trying to be a purist with the whole Project 365 thing - one picture per day.
But...I do have all of my
NYC pictures on Flickr...you'll just have to venture outside of the Photoblog arena. Enjoy!
