Day 73 - Sacrificing To See An Icon

2008.03.13

Today I had the fortune of seeing a theatre icon speak...not once...but twice! The man in question was none other than Stephen Sondheim!

For those of you who don't know him by name, he was responsible for the lyrics in West Side Story and Gypsy...and the music and lyrics to Into the Woods, Company, Sweeney Todd, and a plethora of other shows that made it to Broadway.

His first speaking engagement took place in the afternoon...so I had to take the day off of work to see him...as well as trek over to Burbank. The second speaking engagement was even more of a bother. ;)

Why, pray tell? Well...his evening talk took place on a certain campus in Westwood...and since I went to school "across town" at USC, it always pains me to step foot into...unfavorable territory. But, I do have to say...I love intricately designed concrete and brick architecture...and I was lucky enough to be in the part of campus that represented that architecture very well. I'm not sure which building this arch is from...but I did like its craftsmanship. And to quote Forrest Gump..."That's all I have to say about that."

At least I have the great consolation of knowing I'll have plenty of photos in and around USC once football season starts in the Fall. ;)
